On the dashboard (Resumes in the left sidebar) there are two cards: Create a new resume and Import an existing resume.

Option 1: Start from scratch

1

Click “Create a new resume”

Click the card to open the Create New Resume dialog.
2

Give it a name

Type a name in Resume Name and click Create. You’ll go straight into the editor and can start filling it in.

Option 2: Import an existing resume

Already have a resume? Import it instead of retyping.
1

Click “Import an existing resume”

The Import Resume dialog opens. Two file types are supported: JSON and PDF.
2

Pick the file type, drop the file

First choose JSON or PDF under File type, then drag the file into the dashed box (or click to select).
3

Wait for the import

  • JSON: instant — it creates a new resume directly.
  • PDF: parsed section by section with AI (Basics, Experience, Education, Projects, Skills…), which takes a few to a dozen seconds.
Before importing a PDF, sign in and configure an AI model. PDF parsing runs on the backend (an LLM), so it needs a signed-in account (cloud mode) plus an AI model in Settings → Model Configuration (API Key, Base URL, Model, Max Tokens). Otherwise you’ll be prompted.JSON import needs neither sign-in nor AI configuration.
Where does JSON come from? Every resume in Magic Resume can be exported as JSON (the JSON panel in the editor → Download). For backup, migration, or moving content between two resumes, JSON is the safest route.

After importing

You land in the editor and can edit right away. Next you might:

Sign in for AI

AI (writing, PDF parsing) runs on the backend and needs sign-in. Once signed in, use platform credits or your own API key (stored only in your browser).
